Einführung in den Bericht

If there is one thing that people from different backgrounds have in common, it's a love for their favorite food! For the months of June and July, you will have the opportunity to interact with a topic that everyone has something to say about. With our Monthly Theme on "Food", we encourage you to think about food with an open mind, reflect on your own habits, and also take action against world hunger - an injustice that you can help fight. Check out the Global Gallery and Panorama for more ways to get involved.

Also in this issue, information on how to get youth to the UN, an activist's survey, a call for submissions to a new publication on language and violence, and finally, the winners of 'Russia Through the Eyes of Youth' art contest.

Monthly Theme: Food

The World Food Programme and Walk the World have partnered with TakingITGlobal to bring you the 'Food' Monthly Theme!

What is your relationship to food? All of us need it, some of us grow it, many of us cook it, but how many question it? TakingITGlobal's monthly theme is your opportunity to learn about important food topics like hunger, genetically modified foods, nutrition, vegetarianism, water, and more. Celebrate food, by sharing your personal stories and views, photographs, not to mention your recipes! Plus, find out ways to put your knowledge and concern into action. From small actions you can take in your own life, to larger strategies - celebrate, reflect and act on TakingITGlobal's Monthly Theme on Food. Klick hier!

Survey!

Transnational Youth Activism is one of the most striking current examples of globalization's human networks. Increasing numbers of activists work in transnational advocacy networks that involve activists outside as well as inside the organizers' nations of origin. This study is being sponsored by Mica Pollock of the Harvard University Graduate School of Education in collaboration with the Global Youth Action Network and TakingITGlobal. It will boost the visibility of young people as actors in new and growing social movements that cross national boundaries and will ultimately strengthen our joint work. Please pass the opportunity on to others. Klick hier!

Youth Delegates at the UN

Is your country sending a youth delegate to the UN General Assembly?

This year marks an important year for young people at the United Nations: In the 60th Session of the General Assembly the situation of young people around the world will be reviewed, as well as the achievements attained in the implementation of the World Program of Action for Youth (WPAY) ten years after its adoption. But who can review the situation of young people better than young people themselves? The UN General Assembly has already recommended three times that Member States include a youth representative in their delegations, but unfortunately still only a few countries do so. You can find out if your country is sending a youth delegate by visiting the website of the UN Youth Program. Klick hier!

You can also find useful information there on how to become a youth delegate if your country is one of those that do not have a program to select youth delegates.

TakingITGlobal joins the Russian e-development partnership

In order to expand the project on youth participation through the use of ICTs implemented by TIG and partners in Russia, TIG joined the Russian e-development partnership (PRIOR). PRIOR is a coalition of organizations whose goal it is to facilitate dynamic and comprehensive development of the information society and to build the knowledge economy in Russia.

We look forward to working with PRIOR around youth engagement in the development of the information society in Russia. For more information on PRIOR click here! (English version is available)

Global Gallery Contest "We Are What You Eat"

This month the Global Gallery invites you to create images representing the impact of what we eat; images of how you share your food with others, images of influence on the the massive world around us and of impact on our everyday experiences, and images showing how our world is affected and changing, in positive or negative ways, because of our eating habits. Panorama Online Magazin

Food is the lifeblood of human existence. Without it we become weak, inert, demoralized; Hunger and malnutrition permeate the planet. While some go without, others sustain their livelihoods by its production. And even others rarely think about where there food comes from; it is always just readily available. Despite these extremes, food is primarily a unifer. People learn about one another through the sharing of food. Appreciation for difference is cultivated too.
